Testimonials

Here's what some of our past cyclists say about riding with us:

We totally enjoyed the small size, the challenging days on the saddle and the personal touch you brought to our group. Having been in Europe 9 times riding with many outfitters, your trip compares with the best of the best.

Looking forward to a other trip with Cobbles and Corks.

Alps tour 2015

I had the pleasure of riding with Bertrand in the Alsace region last May 2010. For those of you unfamiliar with Alsace, it's on the western border of Germany. The Rhine River flows through it, thus the region is famous for its "vin blancs." The region is also known for its dairy products and asparagus farms. Alsace is dominated by beautiful, green rolling hills dotted with Bavarian style villages and bucolic dairy farms. Its proximity to the German border made it a site of numerous WWI battles and bike tours can include a fascinating historical journey of trench warfare for those so inclined!

I can't tell you how enjoyable it was to spend a bike vacation with a true French local who was also a chef! Bertrand understood the roads, the villages, the language, culture and food.

I have ridden extensively in all of France's mountainous regions and nothing comes close to the Voges. The Alps and Pyrennes are great but the selection is sorely limited and there is no option of throwing a mellow, flatter day into the mix. The climbs in the Voges are generally less crowded and more "intimate " (lots of thin hard to find access roads that would be difficult to discover without Bertrand or someone equally familiar with the local scene).

Also the towns (read: eating) are  more sparse in the other more famous alpine regions of France. So just on terrain alone the Voges rules for great riding. Add to that Bertrand's local knowledge, culinary eye (or is that nose?) and ability to crush all comers when it comes to climbs make Cobbles and Corks the best of French Bike touring.

Bertrand and Laura showed us a side of France that most people don’t see. We had time to really enjoy the scenery and were allowed the freedom to stop at any time to take pictures, soak up the scenery, or just rest. The rides were as challenging as we wanted them to be and I am looking forward to the possible opportunity of seeing another part of France by bike with Laura and Bertrand.

When you are tired of the Alpes and Pyrenees, come to cycle the Vosges with Bertrand and Laura. Yes the tour has been in this area to so there are plenty of climbs but flats too, the roads are quiet and the villages flower laden. Castles to see and fabulous food make this bike tour a perfect mix.

We came to ride the “Cobbles and Corks” ride tour expecting a good bike ride. What we got was  the glory of French heritage, the charm of the Alsace region and warm of the Marchal family. We are very touched and will be back!

A terrific week which exceeded our expectations. Bertrand and his Family made us feel at home. The ride thought the country side, the vineyards, old villages, hills and valley were magnificent. On our week we had both expert and novice and we were all accommodated. And the outstanding food and wine completed a wonderful experience.

I want to thank you for a fabulous week.  Becky and I had such a great time, with nothing more on our minds than the great rides and wonderful meals.  I have been on three bike tours and you have given me the best experience, hands down.  The rides were just right and the things we saw and did each day were always interesting and varied.  The best thing is your flexibility. Not just in the kind of ride for the day , but also small details, like taking the detour into Munster the last day so I could get the picture of that amazing patisseries.

We would HIGHLY recommend Cobbles and Corks for family tours. The Alsace region mountains and the towns are very beautiful, family friendly, and historical. The tour was beyond anything we imagined. As Bertrand is private chef (and an incredible one at that), dietery and food allergy issues were well handled. Definitively a 10 STAR on a 5 star scale!

Bertrand's experience, local knowledge and attention to detail was just terrific. We look forward to another trip with him soon!

"Wow. Did we have a great time! What more could one wish for than a guide who knows every turn on the mountain, knows the people, the restaurants, as well the regional wines. There was just wonderful attention to detail during our tour, and with sufficient flexibility to accommodate all the riders in our group".

One of the best parts about the trip was how flexible you were with the group. I noticed if you saw weather coming then you changed up the ride for the conditions. Some wanted more CLIMBS....and some wanted less and somehow you always seemed to meet us in the middle and everyone got what they wanted. Now that is a talent!
